Available Internship Positions

All internships are approximately 15-20 hours per week for 11-16 week sessions. Please indicate one or more of the following on your application:

International Visitor Program (IVP)

The intern will assist the International Visitor Program Director with implementation of day-to-day program work. Main responsibilities will include writing proposals for upcoming projects, planning events, and some work managing volunteers. The intern will work with the IVP to research DFW-area resources, write descriptions of resources, and enter these descriptions into at least two data warehousing systems.

International Education Initiative Intern

The intern will work with the International Education Initiative (IEI) of the World Affairs Council to educate Metroplex students on how international events affect their lives, their communities, and their country. Responsibilities include preparing and updating information packages on specific IEI programs, preparing background briefs for upcoming programs, helping to update the information on the center's web site, and assisting in the background research for educational packages.

Membership Intern

The Membership department requires interns who are outgoing, creative and detail-oriented. Interns are encouraged to explore ways in which to improve and/or expand member services as well as research potential areas for growth. Daily responsibilities will include: maintaining and updating membership records; preparing member correspondence; acting as a resource for member questions and concerns; and completing other tasks as assigned. Interns are also expected to take an active role in “selling” the organization by helping recruit new members at programs and other Council functions.   

Marketing Intern

The intern will experience working in multiple areas of the Council by supporting activities related to marketing and public relations.   Responsibilities include coordinating special projects, developing marketing materials for the council, designing layouts and performing administrative duties. Knowledge and experience using PageMaker is a plus.  

Programs Intern

An intern in the Programs department has the opportunity to develop his/her writing, marketing, and organizational skills through a variety of assigned projects. These projects will test the intern's ability to be creative and resourceful in a fast-paced environment. Specifically, interns are asked to research ideas for potential programs, compose bios for incoming speakers, and assist with all administrative tasks associated with program planning and execution. Interns will also be exposed to different aspects of managing a non-profit organization, including: program fundraising, board relations, and membership development.  Interns in the Programs department must work a minimum of 20 hours a week.

Web Development Intern

This intern will assist the Webmaster with all aspects of Information Technology. The Web Development Intern will have the opportunity to get hands-on experience in an advanced technological environment characterized by a majority of in-house operations. Experience in web development and graphic design using an HTML editor, Adobe Photoshop, HTML/CSS/XML is preferred but not required. Experience with Macromedia Flash Pro and JavaScript is a plus.
