   Raise your Global I.Q.!

Join the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth (WACDFW) for Global I.Q. with The Economist, a monthly online audiocast that exclusively connects our members with journalists around the world and allows participants to pose questions about the pressing issues of the day. This special discussion between WACDFW President Jim Falk and The Economist’s China Correspondent James Miles is a sneak peek of the magazine’s special report on China and America. This event will provide essential knowledge for individuals interested in this bilateral relationship, particularly those who invest in China or do business with Chinese organizations.

Observers have begun to refer to a “G2” of America and China as the two most critical agents in any recovery from the global economic crisis. With President Barack Obama due to visit China in November and the recent increase in tariffs on Chinese tires exported to America, the relationship between these two countries has moved back into the spotlight. America is China’s biggest export market, and exports were a major driver of China’s economic growth until the crisis hit. China is the biggest holder of American debt, and if China stops buying U.S. treasury bills, American interest rates will have to rise.

The Economist’s special report on China and America, featured in the October 24 issue of the magazine, will chart the economic interdependence between the two countries and explain their huge mutual interest in each other’s ability to weather the storm. In addition to the special report, this Global I.Q. discussion will be of critical interest to those who turn to The Economist for insight, ideas and analysis into where the world is going and how they can benefit from it.

James Miles, China correspondent for The Economist, has been based in Beijing since 2001. Before that, he held many positions with the BBC, including Beijing bureau chief for BBC News and Current Affairs, Hong Kong correspondent for BBC World Service and senior Chinese Affairs analyst for BBC News London.
