Meridian YP: The Great Debate: A History of U.S. Immigration Waves, Policies & Reform
Laura Collins, Deputy Director, Economic Growth at the George W. Bush Institute

Wednesday, February 28, 2018 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

After suffering a brief shutdown, Congress now has about a month before the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (Obama era policy that protects children of illegal immigrants from deportation) officially ends. Now, that the government is back on, an immigration deal supporting DACA is on the table in exchange for the funding of a border wall.

But the immigration debate, while back in full force, is old news. Immigration has been a “hot topic” of U.S. political debate for decades and has dodged Congress for years. The debate has ebbed and flowed in response to waves of immigration to the U.S. dating back as far as the 1800s.

Join us for a timely program to learn more about the history of U.S. immigration waves, policies and any prospects for reform when we host Laura Collins, Deputy Director for the Economic Growth program at the Bush Institute. An expert in immigration studies and politics, she served as the Director of Immigration Policy at the American Action Forum after working as a Senior Research Analyst at the Republican National Committee for the 2012 election cycle.

No matter what side of the debate you find yourself, drop by the Network Bar for drinks, conversation & perhaps some deliberation…

You may learn something new!
