12th Annual Global Business Forum - The Automated World
Hosted by Baylor University and the McBride Center for International Business

Wednesday, March 14, 2018 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

How will we live in 2030? What tasks will be performed by humans, and what by machines? How will new technologies affect living standards, wealth distributions, global security, and daily life?

People have been asking similar questions since the advent of the water wheel and the steam engine, but advances in machine learning, robotics, data storage, and communications, coupled with the promise of quantum computing, are quickly shifting our expectations. According to PwC estimates, AI could contribute up to $15.7 trillion to the global economy in 2030. On the other hand, Eric Schmidt warns that the U.S. should take seriously China’s plan to become the global leader in AI by 2030, and Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking suggest that AI may be humanity’s “biggest existential threat.”

At the 12th annual Global Business Forum, scholars, business professionals, and public officials will gather to explore current applications of AI and robotics, and to discuss the longer-term issues. The forum will open with a banquet on the evening of Wednesday, March 14, 2018, and will continue throughout Thursday, March 15. The audiences will include students and faculty from Baylor and other universities, educational and international business professionals, public officials, and the news media.
