Remembering Our 41st President

We pause this week to remember President George H.W. Bush, who was a great friend and supporter of our Council. President Bush graciously accepted the H. Neil Mallon Award named for his friend who, in 1948, encouraged Yale graduate George Bush to start his career and make his home in Texas. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Bush family.

This week at the Council we're welcoming members on Thursday night to our annual Open House. As we watch the Brexit battles within Prime Minister Theresa May's government continue in the U.K., we recommend listening to Jim Falk's recent Global IQ Minute podcast with Ireland's Ambassador to the U.S. Daniel Mulhall to learn more about it, deal or no deal. Noon Program & Luncheon
Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek

With Italy’s general election slated for March 4, the nation’s voters are contending with a host of hot-button issues—including NATO, Brexit, the economy, and the influx of refugees and undocumented immigrants. More than 600,000 refugees fleeing civil war in Libya have poured into the country in the last few years—many rescued crossing the Mediterranean Sea and brought to Italian ports.

Armando Varricchio, Ambassador of Italy to the United States, will join the World Affairs Council just three days after his country’s election. A seasoned international diplomat who has represented Italy in Belgrade, Budapest, at the European Union in Brussels, and at the G7, G8 and G20 Summits, Varricchio understands all the nuances of Italy’s changing political landscape.
