6:00 PM Reception
6:30 PM Program
SPACES on McKinney

The recent escalation between the U.S. and Iran is the latest point on a 100-year arc of history between the two nations. Historian Gregory Brew offers context and perspective on tomorrow’s headlines as he explores with our Meridian Young Professionals the last 70 years of a U.S. foreign policy based on oil development and “lingering paternalism, missionary zeal and a sense of Iranian incapacity.”

Gregory Brew, a historian of oil and U.S.-Iranian relations, is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Presidential History at SMU. He received his B.A. in history from the University of Chicago and his M.A. and Ph.D. Ph.D. in U.S. international history at Georgetown University. Brew’s work on global energy and geopolitics has appeared in Modern Diplomacy, Foreign Policy News, Iranian Studies, International History Review and Mediterranean Quarterly.
