You’re sitting in church or shopping at the mall. A stranger with a gun comes into your view. Who is responsible for your personal safety? Can you develop the skills necessary to protect yourself from physical harm? Security expert Greg Shaffer believes you can. He says survival is “a mindset, not a skill-set.” It starts with developing situational awareness and the ability to recognize and interpret danger signs. Then, ultimately, we need to learn how to react to crisis situations with a plan of action that increases our chance of surviving them. “It is the world we live in today,” says Shaffer, where peace of mind requires “awareness, preparedness and training.”

Shaffer is the host of the Discovery Channel’s “Body Cam – Behind the Badge.” He is the author of “Stay Safe – Security Secrets for Today’s Dangerous World.” Shaffer is a 20-year FBI veteran and was a member of their elite “Hostage Rescue Team,” their National Counter Terrorism Center, and the FBI’s international mission. He is the founder of Shaffer Security Group based in Dallas and an internationally recognized expert on the prevention of domestic terrorism and active shooter events. He is a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
