6:00 PM Program

(Dallas, TX) The World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth is partnering with the Albanian American Community to host His Excellency Albin Kurti, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo. In a program titled “Why Invest in Kosovo,” the strength of this young Balkan nation and the economic growth experienced since its independence in 2008 will be discussed, along with energy security, business opportunities, and partnerships.

The evening event will take place at the Westin Galleria on Thursday, May 12 with a reception at 5:30 PM and program at 6:00 PM.

In 1997, Kurti was part of a student resistance group protesting Serbian authorities that occupied buildings on his school’s campus in Kosovo. When the Kosovo War began less than a year later in 1998, he assumed the role of secretary of the office of the general political representative of the Kosovo Liberation Army, remaining committed to Serbian opposition. He was captured, imprisoned, and ultimately transferred to Serbia where he was held captive until the end of 2001. His activism and idealism propelled him to leadership of a newly formed political party in Kosovo, which in recent years has won the popular vote in the largest margins seen since the nation began democratic elections. Kurti served as the fourth and is currently the sixth Prime Minister since the Republic’s statehood in 2008. Kosovo has experienced economic growth year over year for more than a decade and is an active participant in the international community, serving as a model representing the stabilization of the Balkan region.

About the Albanian American Community

It is expected that there are currently around 6,000 Albanian Americans living in North Texas, with representation more diverse than before, including young people pursuing higher degrees and venturing into professional jobs. The Council is happy to partner with the Albanian community to welcome the Prime Minister to the DFW area.
