Bitcoin was first used commercially in 2010, when 10,000 bitcoins were exchanged for two pizzas at Papa John’s. In 2022, those 10,000 bitcoins are worth $365 million. Cryptocurrency has come a long way and interest remains on the rise, but its function and purpose can be perplexing. What exactly is cryptocurrency? How will it impact our economy, technology, and culture? Join us for a conceptual crash course on all things crypto with Wirex USA managing director Harold Montgomery and moderator Lee Bratcher, president and founder of the Texas Blockchain Council.

Harold Montgomery Crypto 101Harold Montgomery is managing director at Wirex USA, a digital payment platform bridging the gap between digital and traditional currencies. His blockchain and digital financial service experience includes serving as CEO of MoneyOnMobile and as chairman and CEO of Calpai. He holds a BA in international relations and affairs and an MBA from Stanford University.

About the Moderator

Lee Bratcher headshotLee Bratcher is the president and founder of the Texas Blockchain Council, an industry association seeking to promote bitcoin and blockchain initiatives in Texas. He is a former Dallas Baptist University political science professor. Bratcher acquired blockchain instructional training from the IBM Watson Research Center in New York, holds master’s degree in international relations from St. Mary’s University, and is a sixth-year Ph.D. candidate at the University of Texas at Dallas.
