Old Parkland, Dallas

During his 37-year Foreign Service career, self-described “crisis junkie” Ryan Crocker served as U.S. ambassador to six volatile countries: Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Pakistan, Lebanon, and Syria.

“The value of life is being involved in something bigger than you,” he said. “It isn’t always about you. It’s about something bigger and more important.” Crocker is currently serving as Princeton University’s Diplomat-in-Residence. He also serves as a board member on the Broadcasting Board of Governors which oversees all U.S. government-supported civilian international media, as well as on the Board of Directors of Mercy Corps International, and is a Trustee for the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.

In the midst of ongoing tension and conflict, the current U.S. administration has taken a new approach to foreign policy in the Middle East, including a September 2018 meeting where U.S. diplomats engaged in peace talks with members of the Taliban, without Afghan government presence.

Join the Council to hear Ambassador Crocker’s take on current U.S. strategy in the Middle East and the state of U.S. foreign policy around the world.
