Remembering Our 41st President

We pause this week to remember President George H.W. Bush, who was a great friend and supporter of our Council. President Bush graciously accepted the H. Neil Mallon Award named for his friend who, in 1948, encouraged Yale graduate George Bush to start his career and make his home in Texas. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Bush family.

This week at the Council we're welcoming members on Thursday night to our annual Open House. As we watch the Brexit battles within Prime Minister Theresa May's government continue in the U.K., we recommend listening to Jim Falk's recent Global IQ Minute podcast with Ireland's Ambassador to the U.S. Daniel Mulhall to learn more about it, deal or no deal. Bring your good tidings and cheer as we ring in the season together at a very special Holiday Reception at the beautiful Meadows Museum!

Then, experience the work of world-renowned surrealist Salvator Dalí on a miniature scale! "Poetics of the Small" is the Meadows Museum's newest exhibition, highlighting small-format paintings the Spanish painter created from 1929-1936, at the height of his career.

Featuring nearly two dozen of Dalí’s paintings, the exhibit shows off his distinctive and eccentric style, with familiar but distorted figures set against dramatic or barren landscapes. Nearly half of the 200 known paintings completed by Dalí in this time period measure 13 inches or smaller! An exhibit on Dalí has never before directly focused on his small-scale pieces, so prepare to immerse yourself in Dalí’s Spain through these “minute masterpieces.”

Join us on November 29th at the Meadows Museum to learn more about Salvator Dalí and Spanish surrealism as we tour this exhibit with docent and Council member, Barbara Benac. Tickets to attend are just $10 for Meridian: Global YPs and their guests. Space is limited, so sign up soon!
