Bono 2006

Bono Honored

Congratulations to U2's Bono for his selection by the George W. Bush Presidential Library as the first recipient of the Bush Medal for Distinguished Leadership. Members of the World Affairs Council will agree with the selection - we first hosted Bono discussing his humanitarian work in Africa in 2006 at Fair Park Music Hall. President Bush said, "Bono's passion for ending poverty and disease is the real deal... I am thankful for his big heart and for his leadership, and I am proud he will be the first recipient of the Medal for Distinguished Leadership." Learn more here.

We Appreciate You!

Thank you to everyone who gave to the Council on North Texas Giving Day 2017! We are grateful for your support and friendship on that day and every day.

On the basketball court, he is Dirk Nowitzki, Number 41, of the Dallas Mavericks. At Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, the kids know him as “Uncle Dirk,” the man who brings back their smiles at a tough time in their lives. On other continents and around town, his Dirk Nowitzki Foundation lifts spirits in neighborhoods and classrooms by providing tangible evidence of hope for the future. Dirk and his wife, Jessica, are the guideposts for the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation.

The World Affairs Council is proud to present our 2017 H. Neil Mallon Award to this global superstar in recognition of his continuing, exemplary work as a humanitarian and international touchstone for Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas and the nation. A legendary power forward, he led Dallas to its first National Basketball Association title in the 2010-2011 season. A 13-time NBA All-Star, he’s the first European to win the NBA’s Most Valuable Player honor and this year became one of just six players in NBA history to score at least 30,000 points. Additionally, off-court his philanthropic efforts have earned him many honors. In 2013, he was named Germany’s UNICEF Goodwill ambassador with the mission of fighting childhood malnutrition and promoting healthy lifestyles around the world.

The H. Neil Mallon Award, named after the Council’s founder, is presented annually to individuals or organizations that have excelled in promoting the international focus of the Dallas/Fort Worth region.
