Is the European Union in a state of disarray? Or will it usher in a “federal” Europe? Ask two different people, and you’re likely to get two different answers. Once an international journalist who covered the EU, Cathryn Clüver Ashbrook has been a long-time observer of the complicated issues and passionate politics facing the cooperative of 28 member states.

In her current posts at the Harvard Kennedy School—she is the founding executive director of the Future of Diplomacy Project and executive director of the India and South Asia Program at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs—Clüver Ashbrook is well-versed in the delicate balance of 21st-century statecraft. Her areas of expertise include EU-US relations and encompass negotiation practice, international conflict mitigation and the impact of technology and communication on diplomatic and non-governmental actors.

As the clock keeps ticking down toward the United Kingdom’s Brexit, Clüver Ashbrook considers the EU’s future in A Humpty Dumpty Europe.
