Remembering Our 41st President

We pause this week to remember President George H.W. Bush, who was a great friend and supporter of our Council. President Bush graciously accepted the H. Neil Mallon Award named for his friend who, in 1948, encouraged Yale graduate George Bush to start his career and make his home in Texas. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Bush family.

This week at the Council we're welcoming members on Thursday night to our annual Open House. As we watch the Brexit battles within Prime Minister Theresa May's government continue in the U.K., we recommend listening to Jim Falk's recent Global IQ Minute podcast with Ireland's Ambassador to the U.S. Daniel Mulhall to learn more about it, deal or no deal. President Donald Trump’s unconventional approach to foreign policy has alternately raised alarm, measured concern, and approval from Americans, U.S. allies and enemies alike. “America First” was his rallying cry on the campaign trail. Now more than a year into his presidency, the scorecard is mixed on his dealings with North Korea, China, Russia, Israel, Mexico, Iraq, Syria, the United Nations and European Union.

Casimir Yost tallies the wins and losses for the man who prides himself on “The Art of the Deal.” Before joining the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy at Georgetown University, Yost served on the National Intelligence Council. Don’t miss his insightful analysis of the emerging risks and opportunities facing 45 during The Art of the Deal: Our Foreign Policy One Year Later.
