His Excellency Sergey Kislyak
Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United States

Friday, May 30, 2014 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Just as Russian Federation Ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak was about to make his first visit to Dallas on March 12, things became diplomatically busy for the veteran of foreign service.

So, he postponed his World Affairs Council luncheon on March 12 with the promise that he would make that first trip to Dallas as soon as possible. He's keeping that promise on May 30 when he will be in town for the special Council program.

Ambassador Kislyak has been busy since Russia annexed Crimea and other territorial disputes surfaced, commanding much of his time. Earlier in the year he was a vocal advocate of maintaining dialogue between Russia and the United States in hopes of exploring mutual opportunities and setting aside "lingering stereotypes of the past," according to an interview with The Voice of Russia.

The ambassador is a veteran of foreign service for both the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation. His career began in 1977 immediately after graduation from the USSR Academy of Foreign Trade. Through the decades he has served in many foreign posts, including (1981-85) Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the USSR to the UN in New York. From 1985 to 1989, he was First Secretary, Counselor of the Embassy of the USSR to the U.S. in Washington.
