Her Excellency Jean Kamau - Strengthening Ties Between Kenya and USA Trade and Investment
Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the United States

Wednesday, May 28, 2014 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

Kenya is in the global news these days because of two issues. It is attempting to eradicate terrorism through a government campaign to control refugees who have flooded the nation. And the government is also working to maintain control of its new internal wealth that is the result of oil and mineral discoveries. The Ambassador of Kenya to the U.S. visits the Council in May to discuss her country and give insight about these current events.

Ambassador Jean Njeri Kamau's career spans two decades of public service and reaches beyond government positions into such fields as women's rights, management and organizational development. Internationally, the ambassador has not only worked for women's empowerment agencies such as the United Kingdom's Womankind International, but also has consulted with United Nations agencies in Geneva, Addis Ababa and Nairobi. In 2012, the United Nations Development Programme retained her as an institutional development consultant for a civil society democratic governance facility. In Kenya, she was the first executive director of the Federation of Women Lawyers and the National Public Complaints Standing Committee. She holds a master’s degree in law from Aberdeen University, Scotland, and master’s degree in Democratic Studies from Leeds University, United Kingdom.
