International Perspectives Series - Jacques deLisle - China's Traditional Inscrutability: A Surprising Look Behind It
Stephen A. Cozen Professor of Law & Professor of Political Science; Director, Center for East Asian Studies, University of Pennsylvania Law School

Thursday, January 22, 2015 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Jacques deLisle is a veteran China-watcher, a scholar of contemporary Chinese law and politics. A professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of law, he has a special focus on the influence legal reforms have on economic reform and political change in China. Plus, he monitors the relationships China has with Taiwan and Hong Kong -- topics that grab the current events headlines -- as well as other international aspects of the giant nation.

This field of interest explains the authoritative comfort with the title of his International Perspectives Series talk on January 22, "China's Traditional Inscrutability: A Surprising Look Behind!"

In addition to his law school duties, deLisle is deputy director of the Center for the Study of Contemporary China. He also is director of the Asia Program at the Foreign Policy Research Institute. He frequently serves as an expert witness in matters regarding Peoples Republic of China law and government policies. In addition, he consults with Chinese leaders in matters of legal reform, development and education programs. Professor deLisle also writes for international law and Asian studies publications and has edited publications on the topic of China.

International Perspective Series tickets to see all speakers are also available for purchase.
