Meridian “Dia de los Muertos” Celebration

Wednesday, October 29, 2014 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

Expect a lively discussion of Dia De Los Muertos at our special Meridian: Young Professionals "Day of the Dead" program! That's on Wednesday, October 29, at the Latino Cultural Center. Make your reservation now for this sure-to-be sold-out-quickly event! Meridians will benefit from a feliz coincidencia: two highly regarded — and still living! — authors crossing paths in Dallas and agreeing to discuss this holiday dedicated to the dead. Our speakers are Julia Reynolds, a staff writer at the Monterey County Herald in California, and Alfredo Corchado, the Mexico Bureau Chief for The Dallas Morning News. Both writers have special relationships with the traditions of Mexico and will discuss the practices and contrasts of the Dia in Mexico and the way it is honored in Texas and other states. And there'll be a question-and-answer session, too.

Each prize-winning journalist has also enjoyed success with books. Reynolds is the author of the recently published Blood in the Fields: Ten Years Inside California's Nuestra Familia Gang. Corchado is author of Midnight in Mexico: A Reporter's Journey Through a Country's Descent into Darkness. Remember, reserve your place today. Seating for the living is limited — and, of course, refreshments are a tradition for Dia De Los Muertos on both sides of the border and on this side of muerte.
