International Perspectives Series - Fiona Hill - How Should We Deal With Putin’s Russia?
Director, Center on the United States and Europe and Senior Fellow in the Foreign Policy Program, Brookings Institution

Wednesday, June 10, 2015 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

The daughter of a British coal miner and a nurse grows up to leave England, earn a Ph.D. in history at Harvard and write books and articles about Russia's history, its future and the controversial personality who commands the current post-Communist nation.

That is the story of Fiona Hill, a Foreign Policy Program senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and director of the Brookings Center on the United States and Europe. She is co-author of the recently released second edition of Mr. Putin: Operative in the Kremlin.

Her academic and professional careers guarantee an authoritative voice for the 2015 International Perspectives Series as she discusses "How Should We deal With Putin's Russia?" She has an understanding of Vladimir Putin's theory of leadership. A passage in her Putin book says the Russian leader "has turned himself into the ultimate political performance artist. Over the last several years, his public relations team has pushed his image in multiple directions, pitching him as everything from big game hunter and conservationist to scuba diver to biker—even nightclub crooner."
