Youth Refugees: Stories of Conflict, Courage, and Resettlement in Dallas

Meet three student refugees who have resettled in the Dallas area and are attending Conrad High School. These students, living in Dallas for 2-5 years, come from a diverse group nations: Iran, Malaysia and Nepal. The event's goal is to provide a platform for the students to share background on the conflict in their home countries, their stories of struggle and perseverance, and the resettlement process.

In addition to the student testimonies, the discussion will include perspectives of local community leaders. They will identify gaps in the services provided to the refugee community and address the needs of new arrivals. 

Panelists include:

  • Resettlement agencies – Christopher Cambises (Refugee Services of Texas)
  • Pro-bono legal assistance – Bill Holston (Human Rights Initiative)
  • Law enforcement – Lieutenant Ruben Ramirez (Dallas Police Department)
  • Human rights awareness & advocacy – Dr. Rick Halperin (SMU)
  • Medical needs – Lance Rasbridge (Parkland Hospital)
