Symposium on Creating Impact In Global Health

Wednesday, May 11, 2016 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM

The Council and SMU are partnering to present the free and open-to-the-public Symposium on Creating Impact in Global Health. Council President and CEO Jim Falk will moderate a panel of experts discussing medical care and impact on nations with restricted health programs.

The Symposium’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Groesbeck Parham, a gynecologic oncologist and professor of gynecology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As leader of Zambia’s national cervical cancer program for the past three decades, he developed an easy, affordable screening procedure using household vinegar. Cervical cancer kills 81 percent of the Zambian victims who have limited access to health care.

Featured panelists include Celina Schocken, CEO, Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon, a global organization battling breast and cervical cancer; Dr. Suku Nair, chair of SMU’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering; Dr. Seema Yasmin, Public Health professor at the University of Texas at Dallas and The Dallas Morning News’ medical writer; and Dr. Eric G. Bing, Founding Director of SMU’s Center for Global Health Impact and Global Health professor.
