“We are moving into an era where cities will matter more than states and supply chains will be a more important source of power than militaries — whose main purpose will be to protect supply chains rather than borders.” – Parag Khanna writing in Connectography: Mapping the Future of Global Civilization.

The Council’s Monday, October 24, speaker Parag Khanna is described on his website as “a leading global strategist, world traveler, and best-selling author.”

He has written a 600-page book about global connectivity and the path of civilization that, a reviewer pointed out in The New York Times, has recognition of assistance “from a plethora of institutions spanning four continents.” Combine that with the 400 people he thanks for helping with the book and, The Times review read, “Parag Khanna may well be the most connected man alive.”

The goal of Khanna’s book is to explain how the world will be connected in the future. He writes, “Supply chains and connectivity, not sovereignty and borders, are the organizing principles of humanity in the 21st century.”

Khanna’s other books include Hybrid Reality: Thriving in the Emerging Human-Technology Civilization (2012), How to Run the World: Charting a Course to the Next Renaissance (2011) and The Second World: Empires and Influence in the New Global Order (2008).

He was named to Esquire magazine’s 2008 list of “75 Most Influential People of the 21st Century,” and appeared on WIRED magazine’s “Smart List.” He spoke at TED Global 2009, was guest host of TED Global 2012 and spoke at TED in 2016.

He’s a CNN contributor and Senior Research Fellow in the Centre on Asia and Globalisation at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore. Also, he is the Managing Partner of Hybrid Reality, a boutique geostrategic advisory firm, and Co-Founder & CEO of Factotum, a leading content branding agency.
