Global Forum: Guided Tour of Monet: The Early Years at the Kimbell Art Museum
led by Deputy Director of the Kimbell Art Museum, George Shackelford

Wednesday, November 2, 2016 3:45 PM - 6:00 PM

What an extraordinary Global Forum event! In a word: Monet!

But how did the young man Claude Monet become the artist Monet?

The Council's Global Forum members will have the opportunity to learn as they enjoy a very special free guided tour of the Kimbell Art Museum’s latest special exhibition, Monet: The Early Years, on Wednesday, November 2.

The tour of this acclaimed exhibition will be elevated by its guide, Deputy Director of the Kimbell Art Museum George Shackelford, a respected curator and expert on European art. He is a 1977 summa cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College who received his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1986.

Monet: The Early Years is described as a "groundbreaking exhibition" that is "the first ever devoted to the young genius of Claude Monet.” It is focused on the initial phase of the beloved artist's career from his debut in Normandy in 1858 until 1872 when he relocated to Argenteuil on the River Seine near Paris. It was during this time that he established his reputation for "a highly personal and distinctive mode of painting."

The works on display have been drawn from museums in the United States, Europe, and Japan. In this exhibit, one can trace Monet's development from a young man with ambition to an artist with a distinct and appealing personality. After the 4 p.m.–5 p.m. tour of the exhibit, the Global Forum evening continues with a 5:45 p.m. optional "Dutch Dinner" at Winslow's Wine Cafe, 4101 Camp Bowie Boulevard, in Fort Worth. The Kimbell Art Museum is at 3333 Camp Bowie Boulevard.
