Garrett M. Graff is a pioneering journalist who has written a book with an extraordinarily intriguing but not necessarily comforting title: Raven Rock: The Story of the U.S. Government’s Secret Plan to Save Itself — While the Rest of Us Die.
In 2005, Graff pioneered a journalistic step at the White House, becoming the first blogger accredited to cover a White House press briefing. His notebook from that first White House briefing is on view at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.
Before that, his online career began as webmaster for Vermont Gov. Howard Dean. He's written for many publications – online and print and currently is executive director of the Aspen Institute's cybersecurity and technology program.
Raven Rock is described as "the eye-opening true story of the government’s secret plans to survive and rebuild after a catastrophic attack on US soil—a narrative that spans from the dawn of the nuclear age to today."
Respected Kirkus Reviews referred to Raven Rock as a "frightening eye-opener."
Graff served as editor of Washingtonian and POLITICO Magazine where he helped lead the magazine to its first National Magazine Award. He writes for many publications including WIRED and Bloomberg BusinessWeek.
Among Graff's books are The First Campaign: Globalization, the Web, and the Race for the White House, an examination of the role of technology in the 2008 presidential race, and The Threat Matrix: The FBI At War, which traces the modern history of the FBI.
He is also the author of the ebook Angel Is Airborne: JFK's Final Flight From Dallas, the story of the flight back to Washington after John F. Kennedy's assassination in Dallas on November 22, 1963.
Graff is board chair of the National Conference on Citizenship—a Congressionally-chartered nonprofit focused on civic engagement that was founded by Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower. He is on the board of Vermont Public Radio, on the board of commissioners for the Burlington Housing Authority and a member of the Vermont Community Foundation.
