The Global Classroom Workshop is a three-day intensive educator training which aims to provide a global component to current curriculum. Participants will hear from a variety of presenters who represent educational organizations that provide complimentary international resources to educators. Teachers will learn about National Geographic lessons, dozens of education websites, MENSA gifted & talented hands on strategies, Population Connection materials, Asia Society materials and much more!

US Dept. of Education statement:
In today's globalized world, an effective domestic education agenda must address global needs and trends and aim to develop a globally competent citizenry. It is no longer enough to focus solely on ensuring that students have essential reading, writing, mathematics, and science skills.

Seating is available for 75 teachers. Open to 3rd -12th grade teachers of all subjects that want to infuse more global elements in their courses.

The June event provides PD credit, three ethnic meals and materials at NO COST. Those educators who register but do not attend the workshop will be charged $20. Thus, a $1 charge is necessary to capture registrant credit card information.

On Friday, May 26th, 2017, the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth is teaming up with Emmett J. Conrad High School, one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Dallas ISD with one of the largest student refugee populations, to put on a panel highlighting the stories and journeys of three incredible young women. These girls, who hail from Iraq, Sudan, and Thailand respectively, each have their own stories to share and their own perspectives on the plight that resettled refugees face upon coming to America. This program is intended to create a platform for these young women to tell their stories, and the stories of their families, to help the greater DFW community understand the plights that so many people like them face.

What's the best way to learn a new language and experience a foreign culture? Live abroad, of course! During this one-day training educators will learn about trends in European college systems including Germany, France, Spain and Italy not for semester abroad programs, but undergraduate degrees abroad! Information will be provided on how to help your students apply for programs in these countries and get scholarships to fund the experience. Lunch will be provided.
