Annie Jacobsen - AREA 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base
Author, AREA 51; Investigative Report, The Los Angeles Times

Tuesday, May 24, 2011 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

Annie Jacobsen

Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base is embargoed until its May 17 release date.

Located about 100 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Area 51 is the most famous military installation in the world, and also the most secret. The base has gained a high level of notoriety throughout the years, spawning stories of missile testings, underground tunnel systems, alien encounters and UFO sightings. But what actually goes on in this part of the Nevada desert? Investigative reporter Annie Jacobsen will give an unprecedented look at the base’s history and share extraordinary accounts from Area 51 personnel in her Dallas address.

Jacobsen’s soon-to-be-released book, Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base, is the first publication based on recently declassified documents and interviews with firsthand eyewitnesses to base activities — 74 individuals linked to the secret location. Jacobsen reveals for the first time the true story of Area 51, from testing nuclear reactors to building top-secret supersonic jets to pursuing the War on Terror.

Annie Jacobsen is a contributing editor at the Los Angeles Times Magazine and an investigative reporter. “The Road to Area 51,” her two-part series published in the Los Angeles Times Magazine, broke online reader records and remained the “most popular/most emailed” story for 10 consecutive days.
