What Does China Want?
Ross Terrill

Wednesday, August 20, 2008 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

With all eyes on the Beijing Olympics this month, sports media coverage is expected to be interspersed with a focus on China’s politics and leadership. One of the top U.S. experts on this rising superpower, Ross Terrill, will offer insights into the “mind” of the Chinese government. He will discuss the positive and negative aspects of its ascension and explore the strengths, weaknesses, ambitions and concerns of Chinese officials at a time when their country has achieved a new global stature and prominence on the international stage.

Ross Terrill is a fellow at the Fairbanks Center for East Asian Research at Harvard University. He was previously a contributing editor of the Atlantic Monthly. He has won the National Magazine Award for Reporting Excellence and the George Polk Memorial Award for Outstanding Magazine Reporting for his writings on China. The author of numerous books and articles on China, Terrill has recently written The New Chinese Empire: And What It Means for the United States.
