TEDxChange: "The Future We Make" Live Webcast
Featuring Melinda French Gates and Chris Anderson

Monday, September 20, 2010 9:00 AM - 1:30 PM

TEDx and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have teamed up for a very special TEDx project -- TEDxChange. TEDxChange marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the eight Millennium Development Goals set out by the UN to tackle global issues such as poverty, child mortality and disease. Convened by Melinda French Gates and featuring talks by some of the world's most inspired thinkers and doers, TEDxChange will look at what changes have taken place in the last decade, and what more needs to be done to ensure the health and well-being of future generations.

Join the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth and TEDxSMU on Monday, September 20 for a live webcast of the TEDxChange event featuring Melinda French Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and TED Curator Chris Anderson. Attendees are invited to stay for lunch and participate in “Dallas Responds,” which will include a moderated discussion of the webcast and the Millennium Development Goals with Bob Freling, executive director of SELF (Solar Electric Light Fund). SELF is a not-for-profit organization that designs and implements sustainable energy solutions for enhancements in health, education, agriculture and economic growth in the developing world.

Freling's talk will focus on "Energy for All: Powering the Millennium Development Goals" and address the vital role that power sources play in accomplishing all of the goals set forth by the United Nations. Because energy sources are the lifelines for civilizations, he will argue that none of these goals can be met without making these resources available to all.

A message from Melinda French Gates
Can one person affect the world?

I’ve personally seen that, yes, anyone can have a huge impact. Whether it’s a mother-in-law in India learning a new way to ensure that her grandchild is born safely, or a medic administering lifesaving polio vaccines to hundreds of children—small acts add up. The future is not fixed. We all have a hand in how it plays out.

More than a decade ago, Bill and I realized that we all live in a unique time in history—where technological advances and social innovations can help save millions of lives. I’m excited to share some of the incredible work being done... click here for Melinda's full message.
