World Affairs Council of Dallas Fort/Worth
July 9, 2018 Weekly Communiqué
Honoring the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Nelson Mandela - July 23

During his lifetime, Nelson Mandela was an impassioned and tireless activist fighting against the cruelty and injustices of South Africa’s apartheid government. Imprisoned for nearly three decades, not even his jailors could crush his spirit. The Prison Letters of Nelson Mandela, a new book celebrating his 100th birthday, reveals the warmth, strength and conviction of this remarkable man through his personal letters.

Gain insight into never before seen letters from his imprisonment through the eyes of Mandela’s granddaughter, Zamaswazi Dlamini-Mandela, an entrepreneur devoted to advancing her grandparents' message of youth education and empowerment, and veteran South African journalist Sahm Venter, who covered the anti-apartheid struggle for more than 20 years.

This event is presented in partnership with the Dallas Museum of Art Arts & Letters Live and Trinity (TX) Chapter of The Links Incorporated, and in cooperation with the Eastern Africa Diaspora Business Council. Media sponsor, The Dallas Morning News. Learn More »
