Congratulations, 20 Under 20 Class of 2018!

On Friday, May 18, the Council honored outstanding local high school students who were accepted into the 20 Under 20 Class of 2018. The Council created the 20 Under 20 initiative in 2017 as part of its Global Young Leaders program to honor exceptional students who are active in their local Junior World Affairs Council (JWAC) clubs. The program showcases young people in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex who consistently give back to their communities and exemplify what it means to be a global citizen. This year, 11 of the 20 also received Global Gateway Scholarships of $1,000 for their extraordinary leadership skills, commitment to global issues, academic achievements and participation in JWAC.

Students from this year’s class represent the following North Texas schools:

  • Lloyd V. Berkner High School (Richardson ISD)
  • Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy (Dallas ISD)
  • Brighter Horizons Academy (Private)
  • Coppell High School (Coppell ISD)
  • International Leadership of Texas High School- Garland Campus (Public Charter)
  • Imagine International Academy of North Texas (Public Charter)

  • Uplift North Hills Prep (Public Charter)

In addition to the May 18 recognition event, Global Young Leaders hosted “Three Days of Leadership” in June for this year’s 20 Under 20 class in downtown Dallas. The training introduced students to a variety of career opportunities through meetings with local experts on diplomacy, journalism, public service, cognitive thinking, STEM and business.

Thank you to the companies and organizations that met with these exceptional students during their leadership training, including:

  • Azteca TV 55
  • Consulate General of Canada
  • Dallas Business Journal
  • Dallas Office of Welcoming Communities and Immigrant Affairs
  • Refugee Services of Texas
  • Texas Central Partners, LLC
