Teacher Workshop: World Religions – Buddhism and Sikhism
In Texas classrooms, coverage of world religions is limited to three courses: middle school social studies, high school world geography, and high school world history. Texas does not require public school students to learn about world religions, instruction falls within the social studies curriculum. The State Board of Education established the social studies EKS in 2010 providing teachers with materials for their lessons with specifications for what they are able to teach. In this workshop, teachers will learn more about world religions (Buddhism and Sikhism) and combine their knowledge with other educators with similar goals.
