The unicorn is a magical, mythical creature. It’s also a word used to describe high-flying Silicon Valley startups who hit what Mashable calls “the techie jackpot,” propelled skyward by new ideas and venture capital to become worth more than $1 billion. Sometimes these unicorn companies flirt with the fate of another mythical figure: Icarus. “Super Pumped,” tells the story of the unicorn Uber and the ousting of its founder Travis Kalanick in 2017, leading to what author Mike Isaac calls “one of the single most destructive years for a corporation in American history.”

Fort Worth native and Trinity Valley School alumni Mike Isaac has been a New York Times technology reporter based in the San Francisco bureau. He has reported on Silicon Valley giants including Facebook, Uber and Twitter for a decade. Mr. Isaac has a B.A. in English Literature, magna cum laude, from the University of California, Berkeley.
