The U.S and India are the two largest countries in the world that share the same democratic values. On paper they should be the best of friends, yet over the past 75 years their relationship has been tumultuous. In her book, A Matter of Trust: India-U.S. Relations from Truman to Trump, journalist Meenakshi Ahamed reveals the personal prejudices and insecurities of the various leaders and the political imperatives that so often cast a shadow over the U.S. and Indian relationship. The Council takes a closer look at the relationship between the world’s two largest democracies.
