Amanda Ledwon, an educator of Denton Ryan High School since 2019, has been named the 2023 International Educator of the Year (IEY) by the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth. Ledwon has been associated with the Council for over seven years and an educator for more than twenty years.
Ledwon is described as having a “passion, dedication, and love for having students involved in the international community.” Each year, she reads the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights to her students to educate them about this important global topic.Through her teaching she has inspired one of her former students to pursue both an undergraduate and graduate degree in human rights.
The IEY award ceremony will be held at the Arts District Mansion at noon on Monday, March 27, 2023. The luncheon highlights the amazing individuals that make our education program, Global Young Leaders, possible. In working directly with high schools and universities, the Council has encountered numerous educators devoted to enriching their students' knowledge of world affairs and expanding their international learning opportunities. These teachers and administrators demonstrate leadership by going above and beyond their typical responsibilities.
The IEY celebration features a conversation with U.S Department of State Spokesperson, Ned Price, an alumnus of the Council’s international education program.
Proceeds from the luncheon support the Global Young Leaders program, the Council's international education initiative, the only education initiative in North Texas focused on global competence.
