Over ten days in January 1943, Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt and their military advisors met in secret in Casablanca, Morocco for what is now known as the Casablanca Conference to discuss the strategy for the remainder of the war. Notably, Joseph Stalin received an invitation but was engaged in a major offensive against Germany. Global Forum members are invited to an exclusive look into James Conroy’s in depth book, The Devils Will Get No Rest: FDR, Churchill, and the Plan that Won the War, about the master class strategies by world leaders who overcame their differences to forge a war-winning plan. Moderated by Council board member Talmage Boston.

About the Speaker:
James Conroy HeadshotJames B. Conroy is an award-winning author and an honorary fellow of the Massachusetts Historical Society. He has worked on Capitol Hill as a Senate press secretary and a congressional chief of staff, and served for six years in the Naval Air Reserve. Conroy graduated magna cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center and practiced law in Boston until 2020. His first book, Our One Common Country, was a finalist for the prestigious Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize. His second, Lincoln’s White House, shared the Lincoln Prize and won the Abraham Lincoln Institute’s annual book award. 

About the Moderator:

He is also a former board member of the World Affairs Council and a member of the Mallon Circle, an honorary body comprised of members who have served the Council with distinction. He is a historian, author, speaker, and interviewer. Boston has spoken at the National Archives, six presidential libraries, 12 World Affairs Councils, and many universities.
