Texas Leadership: A Dialogue with Congressman Veasey on Local and National Issues

Representative Marc Veasey
was first elected to public office in November 2004 to represent Texas House District 95 in Southeast Fort Worth. Veasey served as a state representative for eight years, and served as chair of the House Democratic Caucus. In 2012, Veasey was elected to represent the 33rd Congressional District, pleding to create jobs, promote comprehensive immigration reform, and provide quality and affordable healthcare for Americans. In Congress, Representative Veasey founded the first Congressional Voting Rights Caucus, accepted his appointment as an assistant and regional whip, and served as whip for the Gun Violence Prevention Taskforce. He is currently a member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, the Congressional Black Caucus, and the New Democrat Coalition.

Steve GardnerSteve Gardner is the Herman Brown Professor of Economics at Baylor University where he served for more than 30 years as director of the McBride Center for International Business. He holds a BA in Economics and Russian Studies from The University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in Economics from The University of California at Berkeley. He is the author of three books and numerous academic articles, and has organized Baylor conferences, academic programs, and study-abroad programs in several regions of the world. He serves as chair of the Keston Center advisory board and as a board member and Mallon Fellow for the World Affairs Council of DFW. Gardner is active in his local church, has served as an international consultant for major corporations, and was selected as the Distinguished Professor of the Hankamer School of Business for the 2021-2022 academic year.
