One Day University - America 2019: Where are We Now? (And Where are We Going?)

This course is a half-day, noncredit option to study American history and political, economic, and cultural trends from 1877 to the present and their significance on the intellectual life of the United States in contemporary times. Go back to college for the day without tests or homework. One Day University is a New York-based adult learning company that brings "superstar" professors from the nation’s top college campuses to entertain and enlighten audiences. The Dallas program features William Burke-White from the University of Pennsylvania discussing “America 2019: Where Are We Now? (And where are we going?),” Wendy Schiller from Brown University discussing “What's Wrong with Congress? Can an 18th Century Structure Still Work?,” and Jeremi Suri from the University of Texas discussing “The Presidency: The Changing Role of America's Highest Office.”



William Burke-White - Richard Perry Professor and Inaugural Director, Perry World House, University of Pennsylvania 

William Burke-White is a US-American law professor and policy advisor. He is the Inaugural Director of Perry World House, an interdisciplinary global policy research institute at the University of Pennsylvania. He is an expert on international law and global governance, serving in the Obama Administration from 2009-2011 on Secretary Clinton’s Policy Planning Staff, providing the Secretary direct policy advice on multilateral diplomacy and international institutions.

Wendy Schiller - Chair of the Political Science Department, Brown University

Wendy Schiller is the Chair of the Political Science Department at Brown University. She is an expert in the field of the U.S. Congress and political representation, and the recent recipient of a National Science Foundation grant to study party conflict and factionalism in the U.S. Senate. Professor Schiller has been a guest scholar at the Brookings Institution and a six-time recipient of the Undergraduate Teaching and Research Award at Brown.

Jeremi Suri - Mack Brown Distinguished Chair for Leadership in Global Affairs, the University of Texas at Austin 

Jeremi Suri holds the Mack Brown Distinguished Chair for Leadership in Global Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a professor in the University's Department of History and the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs. Professor Suri is the author and editor of nine books on contemporary politics and foreign policy, most recently: "The Impossible Presidency: The Rise and Fall of America's Office." His research and teaching have received numerous prizes. In 2007 Smithsonian Magazine named him one of America's "Top Young Innovators" in the Arts and Sciences. In 2018 Suri received the President's Associates Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Texas, and the Pro Bene Meritis Award for Public Contributions to the Liberal Arts.
