If you only know Lawrence Wright as an award-winning writer for The New Yorker, you only know part of this native Texan’s story. Not only is he a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, but a screenwriter, playwright, and producer as well. And he plays keyboard for a blues band in Austin.

Wright has written for numerous magazines including Texas Monthly and Rolling Stone. In 1992, he joined the staff of The New Yorker.  He is the author of one novel and eight nonfiction books. Looming Tower: Al Queda and the Road to 9/11 spent eight weeks on The New York Times best-selling list.  In addition to being translated into 25 different languages, it won a host of literary awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction. Time magazine called it one of the 100 best nonfiction books ever written.

His latest book, God Save Texas: A Journey into the Soul of the Lone Star State, promises to garner similar acclaim. Called a “journey through the most controversial state in America,” Wright takes a humorous, but insightful and candid look into the grandiosity and the contradictions of his home state.
