Suffrage: Women’s Long Battle for the Vote
Ellen DuBois, UCLA

Friday, August 21, 2020 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Time Zone: America/Chicago
Local Time: Friday, August 21, 2020 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Join us as we celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. Distinguished Professor Ellen Carol DuBois traces the suffrage movement from its pre-Civil War beginnings to the long fight for passage of the amendment and its state ratification. Kirkus Reviews calls her recently published book “an authoritative, brisk, and sharply drawn history” for its animated and vivid portraits of those who fought for women’s right to participate in our democracy. Our Council conversation will be hosted by Lee Cullum.

Ellen Carol DuBois is Professor Emeritus in the History Department of UCLA. She is the author of numerous books on the history of woman suffrage in the U.S. She is the co-author of the leading textbook in U.S. women’s history, “Through Women’s Eyes: An American History” and co-editor of “Unequal Sisters: In Inclusive Reader in U.S. Women’s History.” DuBois also taught at the University of Buffalo and received her Ph.D. from Northwestern University.
