 David McCloskey - Damascus Station

About the Book
Called “the best spy novel I have ever read” by General David Petraeus, former CIA director and former commander of US Central Command, Damascus Station is a gripping depiction of the Syrian capital amid the country’s brutal, and still-ongoing, civil war. Written by a former CIA analyst who witnessed the early years of the conflict firsthand, Damascus Station offers a well-informed, but fictional, account of a CIA officer and his Syrian recruit as they navigate the tumultuous political landscape of the crumbling Middle Eastern capital. This spy thriller serves as an example of what it’s like to conduct real-life espionage, while simultaneously wading through the complex emotions we all face as human beings.

David McCloskey is a Dallas-based author and a consultant at McKinsey & Company. McCloskey previously worked as an analyst for the CIA (2008-2014), where he served in field stations across the Middle East throughout the Arab Spring. During his time with the agency, McCloskey was regularly responsible for writing presidential briefs and classified testimonies for Congress, among other duties. He holds an M.A. in international relations and international economics from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.
