Best-selling author Jeffrey Toobin introduces his second book on the secretive world of the Supreme Court, THE OATH: The Obama White House vs. the Supreme Court. Toobin’s access to the Supreme Court justices and their world has been called “phenomenal” and his reporting and storytelling skills are vivid, entertaining and compelling. His latest book focuses on Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission and on the often adversarial relationship between the White House and the Supreme Court, a relationship currently being played out between two Harvard Law graduates: President Barack Obama and Chief Justice John Roberts. Toobin also analyzes the impact of four new justices joining the court in five years, in what The New York Times called “an intimate look at the individual justices, showing how personality, judicial philosophy and personal alliances can inform decisions that have huge consequences for the entire country.”
Jeffrey Toobin’s previous books include The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court, Too Close to Call: The Thirty-Six Day Battle to Decide the 2000 Election, A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President, The Run of His Life: The People versus O.J. Simpson, and Opening Arguments: A Young Lawyer’s First Case – United States v. Oliver North. He is a staff writer at The New Yorker and the senior legal analyst at CNN. He graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude, as did his classmate, future Justice Elena Kagan. Toobin clerked for a federal judge, served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in New York and was an associate counsel to Independent Counsel Lawrence Walsh during the Iran-Contra hearings. He lives with his family in New York.
