Evan Thomas - Ike's Bluff: President Eisenhower’s Secret Battle to Save the World
Former Writer and Editor, Newsweek & TIME

Friday, November 9, 2012 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

In his post-World War II presidency, Dwight D. Eisenhower was a war hero who wanted to keep the United States out of war. “Inside Washington” panelist Evan Thomas explores the often-overlooked importance of President Eisenhower’s Cold War strategy, leadership and influence in Ike’s Bluff: President Eisenhower’s Secret Struggle to Save the World.

Dad was a hard man to know…But the balance that Thomas achieves between Eisenhower the public servant and Eisenhower the man is, in my opinion, as close to the mark as we are likely to see.
John S.D. Eisenhower

Evan Thomas currently serves as Ferris Professor of Journalism at Princeton University and is the author of seven additional books, including The War Lovers: Roosevelt, Lodge, Hearst and the Rush to Empire, 1898; Sea of Thunder; and Robert Kennedy: His Life. He was editor-at-large of Newsweek from 2006 to 2010, and served as Newsweek’s Washington bureau chief for ten years. He has won numerous journalism awards, including a National Magazine Award in 1998 for Newsweek’s coverage of the Monica Lewinsky scandal. His narrative of the 2004 election was honored when Newsweek won a National Magazine Award for the best single topic issue in 2005.
