A Conversation with Secretaries of State James A. Baker, III, & Condoleezza Rice

Join the World Affairs Council and Dallas Museum of Art: Arts & Letters Live for an unprecedented discussion with Secretaries of State James A. Baker, III, and Condoleezza Rice.

James A. Baker, IIISecretary Baker served President Ronald Reagan as White House chief of staff and as the 67th Secretary of the Treasury.  He was the 61st secretary of state, serving under President George H.W. Bush. During his tenure at the State Department, he traveled to 90 foreign countries as the United States confronted unparalleled challenges and opportunities of the post–Cold War era. Baker is currently a senior partner in the law firm of Baker Botts L.L.P. He is honorary chairman of the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University and sits on the board of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

 

Condoleezza RiceCondoleezza Rice is currently a professor of political economy in the Graduate School of Business; the Thomas and Barbara Stephenson senior fellow on public policy at the Hoover Institution; and a professor of political science at Stanford University. She is also a founding partner of The Rice Hadley Group.

Under President George W. Bush, Rice served as the 66th secretary of state of the United States. She was the second woman and first African American woman to hold the post. She also served as President George W. Bush’s national security advisor.

Rice’s soon-to-be-released book, No Higher Honor: A Memoir of My Years in Washington, tells the behind-the-scenes story of her eight years in the White House. Books will be available to purchase at the program and Secretary Rice will be signing books after the program.
