“Iranium” – Film Screening

Wednesday, June 22, 2011 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM

After declaring the Bushehr nuclear plant operational, how close is Iran to having a functioning nuclear weapon? What are the intentions behind its most powerful leaders, and how should the U.S. and international community strategically engage with the country? Join the Council for a special screening of Iranium and take part in a post-film discussion.

Iranium is a documentary that reports on the many aspects of the threat a nuclear-armed Iran poses to America and the world. Narrated by Academy Award nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Sand and Fog, The Stoning of Soraya M), the film includes rarely seen footage and interviews with 25 politicians, Iranian dissidents and leading experts on Middle East policy, terrorism and nuclear proliferation. It documents the development of Iran's nuclear threat, beginning with the Islamic Revolution of 1979 and the ideology installed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini. It also details the oppressive nature of the Iranian regime on its own citizens and highlights revolutionary efforts within Iran to topple the government.

Iranium was recently spotlighted at the Alabama International Film Festival and at the 44th Annual WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival, where it received a Special Jury Award.

After the screening, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from Buck Revell, president of Revell Group International and former associate deputy director for the FBI.
